Position Description

North Mara Gold Mine Limited is seeking to recruit Senior Mine Surveyor to join and grow their team. You will be expected to align to the Barrick DNA and to operate within our mining assets with our best people teams. You will contribute in a safe and cost-effective manner to achieve targets in accordance with Mine Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures and ensure daily targets are met.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the compliance to all regulatory and Barrick health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Report all Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) issues via an incident report
  • Ensure the works are performed in accordance with approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOP),
  • Participate-in and provide a strong contribution to the site safety and environment culture.
  • Understands mine planning and mining production requirements.
  • Understands Project Planning, Civil and Architectural drawings of various projects.
  • Lead, Supervise and coach of Mine Surveyors and Survey Technicians/Assistants.
  • Responsible of setting out surveys of all engineering, geotechnical and geological designs with minimal supervision.
  • Perform Bathymetric survey of Tailing Storage Facility and other water bodies within the mine.
  • Complete other duties as required by Survey-Superintendent.
  • Assist Survey Superintendent as required in their day-to-day duties.
  • Perform End of Month data collection, computation, reconciliation and Reporting
  • Adhere to and improve procedures and practices for Mine surveying.
  • Ensure survey data is compiled into correct formats and grid reference systems.
  • Provide as-built surveys for all excavations and infrastructure.
  • Ensure data is appropriately and safely stored in databases and filing systems.
  • Responsible for continuously updating underground and open cut mining plans to meet statutory requirements.
  • Manage systems for the layout and maintenance of survey reference marks on both the surface and underground, for the control of drilling, development, services and production activities.
  • Check and control Survey equipment to ensure effectiveness and optimal utilization
  • Develop protocol for the auditing of survey activities undertaken by the Mine Surveyors.
  • Provide effective on-the-job training and coaching downwards to ensure Mine surveyors and technicians/Assistants gain new skills and attain their maximum potential.
  • Ensure that all survey equipment is kept in serviceable condition by carrying out regular checks, and performing user allowed adjustments.
  • Fulfill the role of Survey-Superintendent during his/her absence.

Qualification requirements

  • Degree in Geomatics or Land Surveying from any recognized University

Experience and Competencies needed

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in large mining environment preferable in Underground and/or Open pit.
  • A strong knowledge of Large Mining Surveying principles
  • Practical experience in Civil Constructions including Roads, Dams, Buildings and Airstrips.
  • Excellent safety records
  • Good experience with modern surveying equipment such Drones, Trimble/Leica/Sokkia GNSS receivers and Trimble/Leica Total Station, Optical level and plummets, Laser scanners and Slimgyro/Boretrack.
  • Strong knowledge of Mining Software such as Geovia Surpac, Maptek, Datamine, AutoCAD 3D, Trimble Business Centre (TBC), ArcGIS and Microsoft Office package.
  • Possession of current and valid Tanzania driving license

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the compliance to all regulatory and Barrick health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.

  • Assist on all open pit survey operations including but not limited to face,pattern,ore blocks,Grade control  mark ups etc.
  • Assist on all Underground Survey operations including but not limited to face, production rings,cable bolts,scanning (CMS),Boretraking etc.
  • Assist on site and/or offsite civil engineering  construction project such as roads, buildings, dams, pitch etc
  • Assist on all stockpile measurement such as Aggregate, Sand, Soil, Clay, Ore and Waste
  • Assist to demarcate and coordinate land parcels
  • Assist in identifying and restoring land boundary
  • Assisting Bathymetric survey of Tailing Storage Facility and other water bodies within the mine.

Qualification requirements

  •  Basic certificate in Geomatics/Land Surveying and or long related field will be added advantage

 

Experience and Competencies needed

  • At least 5 years of working experience in relevant position and mining environment. (Working experience in open pit and underground mines will add an advantage).
  • At least two years in Civil Projects including Road, Dams and Building Construction projects
  • Excellent safety record
  • Basic knowledge of surveying principles
  • Familiarity with modern surveying equipment.
  • Basic computer knowledge on Microsoft Office and any mining software.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure safe work practices by attending compulsory safety courses and meetings.
  • Wear the appropriate PPE for the task at hand;
  • Assist and conduct incident/accident investigations and reporting.
  • Comply with Occupational Health and Environmental Policies, as well as other policies, procedures and guidelines;
  • Analyzing problems with Generators and compressors engines and rectifying the same.
  • Carrying out routine service on the engine, including oil and filter changes.
  • Repairing or replacing faulty parts and systems.
  • 8. Sometimes integrating new technology into the engine structure.
  • 9. Rebuilding engines after their efficient lifetime is over.

Reporting toHME Superintendent

Duration: Permanent

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure safe work practices, i.e., attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, use of required PPE, incident/accident reporting, and ensuring total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health, and Environmental Policies, as well as other relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Follow all maintenance procedures and ensure the completion of mechanical activities according to standard without causing any further damage to any component/system/equipment.
  • Ensure equipment isolation, adhere to working at height and confined space standards/ procedures, and conduct pre-start checks/ inspections.
  • Carry out mechanical repair and preventative maintenance to maintain Plant & Mobile equipment safely and efficiently to achieve production and cost targets.
  • Carry out troubleshooting, fault finding, and corrective maintenance to solve unplanned equipment unavailability events.
  • Ensure that maintenance practices result in maximum equipment availability.
  • Utilize work instructions to determine job requirements, including job sheets, quality, quantity of materials/ resources, etc.
  • Perform PM inspection according to the maintenance requirements and ensure preventive maintenance compliance.
  • Conduct Mobile and Plant equipment upgrades/modifications as required.
  • Removal of the machine components and replacement.
  • Provide accurate and timely feedback to the First Line Leader on conditions that may affect the functionality of the equipment.
  • Ensure First Line Leaders and all stakeholders are informed of equipment availability status.
  • Follow up on outstanding maintenance/ repairs.
  • Complete shift handover process.
  • Actively participate in training activities to gain new skills and develop their full potential.
  • Under the direction of the First Line Leader, provide appropriate on-the-job training and coaching to less experienced personnel.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:                                                             

  • Ordinary secondary education (Form IV)
  • Trade-certified fitter.
  • Exposure to working with automation of underground mechanized mining equipment.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 5yrs working on Sandvik mechanized mining equipment.

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • The ability to prioritize repairs and take instructions to reduce downtime and delays is foremost in maximizing machine availability and operator utilization.
  • Must have proven experience working as part of a high-speed mechanized jumbo development maintenance team with a sound understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on mobile machinery.
  • The ability to diagnose faults and rectify them in a time-efficient manner is critical.
  • Good Communication Skills, English & Swahili

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure safe work practices, i.e. attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, use of required PPE, incident/accident reporting, and ensuring total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health, and Environmental Policies, as well as other relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Carry out mechanical repair and preventative maintenance to maintain Process Plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner to achieve production and cost targets.
  • Interpretation, access, and reading of job specifications and relevant information
  • Ensuring that the selection of materials for repairs, replacements, and inspection complies with the required standards.
  • Correct selection of hand power tools hand, welding equipment, thermal cutting equipment and thermal heating equipment, and safety equipment for safe use.
  • Understanding of engineering and structural drawings, interpreting sketches and drawings application of measuring equipment, marking, welding terms, codes and symbols, and cutting tools
  • Using oxy-acetylene welding & cutting, thermal gouging, and thermal heating.
  • Interpretation of materials safety data sheets (MSDS)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 100% Compliance with Standard Operating Procedures for safe work daily –Isolation, Lockout, confined space, working at height, lifting and rigging etc.
  • 100% Compliance with scheduled equipment inspections daily, weekly and , Monthly & identified defects reported within the shift
  • 100% Compliance Equipment Preventive Maintenance Schedule & work carried out accordingly daily
  • Response/ attention to breakdowns to carry priority & attended to as soon as practically possible
  • 1x Inspection of Measuring Instruments conducted daily before use & calibrations performed to OEM schedule or when required
