Job Tittle: Cable Bolter Trainer (3 Posts)
Contract Duration: 2 Years
Reporting To: Mining Foreman
Position Description
Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking to recruit a Cable Bolter Trainer to join and grow our team.
The key duties of the Cable Bolter Trainer are to operate and train Locals on the Cable Bolting Rig for the installation of ground support in the mines according to quality specifications, safely and efficiently. You will be expected to align to the Barrick DNA and to operate within our mining assets with our best people teams. You will contribute safely and cost-effectively to achieve targets in accordance with Mine Safety Standards, Policies, and Procedures and ensure daily targets are met.
Responsibilities
- Train the locals to high levels of Cable Bolter Operation.
- Contribute to our safety culture (journey to zero) by adhering to all health and safety standards, policies, procedures, and legislation.
- To drill ground support holes, install cable, and grout them according to the mine ground support specifications.
- To avoid over-drilling and under-drilling and work in accordance with standards, plans, and layouts as well as the geotechnical plans.
- Follow a markup in accordance with geological, statutory, and survey specifications.
- Work with technical and supervisory staff in all quality and safety initiatives.
- Ensure end-of-shift reports are up to date.
- Perform visual inspections of equipment before, and during operation according to procedure to minimize breakdowns and operational losses by the timeous reporting of defects/abnormalities to the Supervisor.
- Operate equipment according to relevant mining requirements and Standard Operating Procedures to achieve daily bolting targets.
- Conduct efficient housekeeping of the equipment and work areas.
Qualification Requirements
- High School or equivalent qualification
- Relevant Cable Bolter competency certification
Experience and Skills Requirements
- Minimum of 3 – 5 years of practical experience in operating a Cable Bolter in an underground mining environment.
- Underground drilling knowledge and skills.
- Previous operation of Sandvik or Atlas Copco Cable Bolters will be advantageous.
- Ability to read and understand cable bolt layouts.
- Strong knowledge & understanding of ground support standards.
- Sound knowledge and experience of underground mining practices and operations.
- Knowledge of Safety, Health, and Environmental Legislation and standards applicable to underground mining.

Responsibilities
- Ensure a healthy and safe working environment for all employees.
- Maintaining, repairing mechanical issues, diagnostics / Fault Finding and Routine inspection on a variety of fixed plant equipment, Coordinate activities in the unit and report back to engineering Manager

Qualification requirements
- Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering would be highly advantageous
- A Mechanical or Electrical Trade Certification
Experience and competencies needed
- 10 years’ maintenance experience with 3 years on a Fixed Plant
- 5 years or more in a supervisory role
- 5 years’ experience in Compressors, Generators, Medium and Low voltage equipment, pumps and basic instrumentation
- Proven mechanical and electrical experience on challenging and remote sites
- Experience with CMMS and planning functions
- Strong communication and English speaking and writing.
- Maintain a safe working practice and environment.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to train less experienced members of the staff.
- Must have computer skills in maintenance planning and scheduling, software, power point, M/S word and MS excel.
- Pronto or SAP skills to be able to follow up and ordering parts required and approvals.
- Strong Safety Background and ability to drive a Safe working environment and practices.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Computer skills –MS Excel, Access, Word, Outlook.

About North Mara

Responsibilities
- Using geotechnical mapping and logging to classify rock mass and hence apply the same data on stope design and mine layouts to ensure that ore extraction proceeds promptly and safely.
- Using structural stability methods, empirical assessment and numerical modelling to arrive at ultimate support systems and determine optimum pillar sizes and stopping sequences to ensure stability of underground workings.
- Advising and assisting mine-operating officials on ground control methods to ensure optimum utilization of the available ore reserves and human resources engaged in ground control activities.
- Carrying out regular monitoring of support systems (e.g. pull tests) to ensure that the recommended support is adhered.
- Measuring of rock strength, rock stress changes, deformation and monitoring seismic activity using different rock mechanics instrumentation to ensure stability of underground and surface workings.
- Ensure Geotechnical staff, well trained to improve on the quality of services offered to the mining department and ensure compliance with Barrick policies and procedures.
- Regularly update the Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP) to improve the quality of service offered to the mining department.
- Designing and monitoring of ground support, backfill systems, and geotechnical instrumentation systems.
- Reporting in writing on geotechnical analyses, risk assessments and inspections.
- Liaising with external mining consultants.
- Collecting, analyzing and reporting of geotechnical data.
- Assist Geotechnical Superintendent to complete North Mara employee’s performance management processes.
- Act as a liaison between mine planning and operations departments coordinating rock-engineering efforts towards achieving short-term objectives.
Qualification requirements
- Bachelor Degree of Science in Mining Engineering or Geological Engineering preferably with a specialization in Ground Control, Geotechnical Engineering or Rock Mechanics.
Experience and Competencies needed
- Minimum 3 year experience in underground mining environment
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years post graduate industry underground mining experience preferably in precious metals using narrow vein long hole stopping.
- Must have a valid Tanzania driving license and able to drive a light vehicle in underground environment.
- Must have good operating knowledge and interpretation skill of popular numerical modelling tools such as DIPS, UNWEDGE, MAP3D and RS2.
- Able to work with limited supervision.
- Good interpersonal skills with contractors and mine personnel.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in both English and Swahili.
- Able to work safely and not create or ignore hazards.
- High degree of patience and tolerance.
- Must have sufficient communication skills.
- Able to maintain accurate records and reports.
- Ability to interpret mine layouts.

Responsibilities:
- Ensure safe work practices, i.e. attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, use of required PPE, incident/accident reporting and ensuring total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Policies, as well as other relevant policies, procedures and guidelines.

- Ensure that mobile equipment is maintained in a safe and cost-effective manner.
- Ensure all Barrick safe work practices are observed and implemented in the department of responsibility.
- Ensure the preparation and execution of maintenance plans and schedules on the basis of daily, weekly and monthly mining and ore processing priorities.
- Supervising, training, developing and nationalization of the maintenance team.
- End of month reporting of maintenance performance against plan.
- The quality, cost and timeliness of maintenance activities are critical to the project as a whole.
- Ensure maintenance costs are kept to, or below assigned budget.
- Display a sense of urgency to ensure timely repair and maintenance of mine equipment.
- Contribute to the operations by ensuring that all maintenance activities are planned and completed in a cost-effective manner with minimal disruption to ore processing and mining activities.
- Demonstrate commitment to safe work practices by example and act immediately on any unsafe act or situation observed and monitor standards.
- Actively promote and foster the development of a pro-active site safety behaviors that makes safety an integral part of all work activities.
- Identify and rectify/report specific hazards using Job Safety Analysis (JSA) process.
- Assist with accident/incident investigation and with the induction and training of new employees
- Ensure all employees reporting to this position attend safety related training courses and engage in any of the company’s safety initiatives.
Qualification Requirements:
- A relevant trade qualification in mechanical or Technician Certificate from a recognized institution.
- A Mechanical Trade Certification is highly desired.
Experience and Skills Requirements:
- Minimum of 8 years’ Artisanal experience in mechanical fitting and mobile equipment maintenance.
- Demonstrated competencies in the rebuild and servicing of underground mining mobile equipment’s.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to interact with People of diverse cultures and levels.
