Kilombero Sugar Company Limited (KSCL) is Tanzania’s largest sugar producer, widely known for its popular “Bwana Sukari” brand of brown sugar. It is a major agro-industrial enterprise located in Kidatu, Kilombero Valley in Morogoro Region, operating two extensive estates and sugar mills — Msolwa and Ruembe — divided by the Great Ruaha River. The company is part of the Illovo Sugar Africa Group, Africa’s biggest sugar producer, in which Illovo holds 75 % shareholding and the Government of Tanzania owns 25 %. KSCL manages the largest sugarcane estate in the country, covering around 26,000 hectares, and integrates a robust supply chain of approximately 8,000 smallholder growers supplying about 600,000 tonnes of cane annually. The company crushes roughly 1.25 million tonnes of sugarcane to produce about 126,000–130,000 tonnes of sugar each year, and additionally operates a 12 million litre per annum distillery producing potable alcohol for local and regional markets.
