The North Mara gold mine is located in north-west Tanzania in the Tarime district of the Mara region. It is around 100 kilometers east of Lake Victoria and 20 kilometers south of the Kenyan border.
North Mara started commercial production in 2002. The mine is a combined open pit and underground operation from two deposits, Gokona (underground) and Nyabirama (open pit).
Job Tittle: Cable Bolter Trainer (3 Posts)
Contract Duration: 2 Years
Reporting To: Mining Foreman
Position Description
Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking to recruit a Cable Bolter Trainer to join and grow our team.
The key duties of the Cable Bolter Trainer are to operate and train Locals on the Cable Bolting Rig for the installation of ground support in the mines according to quality specifications, safely and efficiently. You will be expected to align to the Barrick DNA and to operate within our mining assets with our best people teams. You will contribute safely and cost-effectively to achieve targets in accordance with Mine Safety Standards, Policies, and Procedures and ensure daily targets are met.
Responsibilities
- Train the locals to high levels of Cable Bolter Operation.
- Contribute to our safety culture (journey to zero) by adhering to all health and safety standards, policies, procedures, and legislation.
- To drill ground support holes, install cable, and grout them according to the mine ground support specifications.
- To avoid over-drilling and under-drilling and work in accordance with standards, plans, and layouts as well as the geotechnical plans.
- Follow a markup in accordance with geological, statutory, and survey specifications.
- Work with technical and supervisory staff in all quality and safety initiatives.
- Ensure end-of-shift reports are up to date.
- Perform visual inspections of equipment before, and during operation according to procedure to minimize breakdowns and operational losses by the timeous reporting of defects/abnormalities to the Supervisor.
- Operate equipment according to relevant mining requirements and Standard Operating Procedures to achieve daily bolting targets.
- Conduct efficient housekeeping of the equipment and work areas.
Qualification Requirements
- High School or equivalent qualification
- Relevant Cable Bolter competency certification
Experience and Skills Requirements
- Minimum of 3 – 5 years of practical experience in operating a Cable Bolter in an underground mining environment.
- Underground drilling knowledge and skills.
- Previous operation of Sandvik or Atlas Copco Cable Bolters will be advantageous.
- Ability to read and understand cable bolt layouts.
- Strong knowledge & understanding of ground support standards.
- Sound knowledge and experience of underground mining practices and operations.
- Knowledge of Safety, Health, and Environmental Legislation and standards applicable to underground mining.

Job Tittle: Shift Boss Trainer – Expat
Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking to recruit Shift Boss Trainer – Expat to join our team. The successful candidate for this position is expected to align to the Barrick DNA and drive a change within his team and the business and on a practical note will ensure activities in the mining department are effectively planned and undertaken in a safe and cost effective manner to achieve targets in accordance to BGML Mining Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures.
Reporting to: Mining Foreman
Duration: Fixed Term (2 years)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and organize resources, people and equipment to ensure the execution of the mining schedule
- Obtain, check and refine information. Collate and submit reports. Run data exception reports and take corrective action. Conduct document control spot-checks(5 point)
- Identify recurring problems and derive solutions involving team members.
- Recognize and reward team member efforts
- Promote and assure adherence to safety, health and environmental procedures. Identify unsafe and hazardous situation
- Interpret the approved operational plans. Determine how resources and processes must be utilised / applied to achieve objectives
- Conduct meetings with Miners and report on previous shift status. Identify constraints and compare planned development and production against actual.
- Identify own priorities including PTO’s (Plan Task Observations), leadership interactions, heading inspections and communicate constraints to relevant stakeholders
- Plan, coordinate and control the load and haul process
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Diploma in Mining Operations
- Blasting Certificate
- Valid Driving Licence
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- At least 7 years Drill and Blast experience
- At least 5 years’ experience in a Supervisory role
- At least 3 years Load and Haul operations experience as a Miner
- At least 3 years construction experience as a Miner
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
- Excellent communication in English ,both writing and verbal
- Hazard identification and Risk assessment
- Mine health &Safety Act awareness

Job Tittle: Jumbo Operator Trainer
Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is looking for well experienced Jumbo Operator Trainer – Expat to align to the Barrick DNA and drive a change within his team and the business and on a practical note will ensure activities in the mining department are effectively planned and undertaken in a safe and cost-effective manner to achieve targets in accordance with BGML Mining Safety Standards, Policies, and Procedures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform proper Pre- Inspection
- Tram equipment to designated area.
- Conduct equipment setup for drilling
- Face preparation and marking off.
- Installation of ground support – bolt, mesh, cable bolts
- Perform drilling activities.
- Identify uncoupled equipment and remove it from the workplace.
- Ensure all equipment is clean.
- To record and report drilling performance.
- Monitor and control drilling cycle and efficiencies.
- Ensure blasting holes are clean.
- To perform charging activities
- Assist with the training and skills development of trainees.
- Ensure that all incidents are reported and investigated in accordance with BARRICK requirements.
- To provide technical, practical, and field support in various working areas of the mine focusing on increasing work effectiveness and productivity while lowering cost through improved good operational practices.
Qualification/ Education
- Qualification in Mining or similar technical qualification that is supported by practical work experience in mining.
- Single boom and double boom certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Time management, scheduling, and planning.
- Hazard identification and Risk assessment
- Understand drilling techniques for both rehabilitation and face drilling.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve high-speed development (200m per month per jumbo)
- Candidate should have had exposure to automation within the underground environment.
Experience
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in operating single and double boom.
- Experience in operating machines in large underground mining operation
- Experience in best practice high-speed mechanized underground mining
- Previous trainer experience is a must and will be discussed with potential shortlist candidates as to their exposure.
