About INEC
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is an autonomous public institution established in 1993 under Article 74(1) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania (1977).
INEC was founded following the recommendations of the Nyalali Commission (1991), which advised the Government to transition from a single-party to a multi-party democracy, leading to constitutional reforms under Article 3.
INEC is mandated to oversee and coordinate electoral processes across the nation with transparency, integrity, and professionalism.
