Musoma District Council (MDC) is one of the eight Local Government Authorities in the Mara region of Tanzania, established on January 1, 1984. Strategically located between latitudes 1°30’ and 2°00’ south of the equator and longitudes 32°15’ and 30°15’ east of Greenwich, MDC serves as a crucial administrative and governance hub in the area. The total area of Musoma District is approximately 4,910 km², with land covering about 4,610 km². The remaining 300 km² is comprised of the waters of Lake Victoria, one of Africa’s largest freshwater lakes, which significantly contributes to the district’s economy and livelihoods. The council’s primary objectives include promoting socio-economic development, enhancing public service delivery, and ensuring effective governance within the district.
