Internship Overview

Job Title: Internship Program

Location: AU Headquarters and affiliated offices

Duration: 3 months (renewable once)

The internship is a full-time program designed to help students and recent graduates gain practical experience while contributing to AU programs.

Purpose of the Internship

The AU Internship Program aims to:

Enhance academic learning with practical experience

Build professional and personal skills

Provide exposure to international work environments

Develop future African leaders

Support AU operations through fresh perspectives and skills

Interns will work in a multicultural setting and collaborate with professionals across various fields.

Internship Focus Areas

Interns may be assigned to departments such as:

Agriculture & Rural Development

Economic Development, Trade & Industry

Education, Science & Innovation

Infrastructure & Energy

Political Affairs, Peace & Security

Health & Social Development

Human Resources

Finance & Administration

Legal Counsel & Ethics

Communication & Information

Gender, Youth & Development

NEPAD (New Partnership for Africa’s Development)

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

Be in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree OR hold a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree

Be a citizen of an AU Member State

Be 32 years old or younger

Be fluent in at least one AU language (English, French, Arabic, or Portuguese)

Demonstrate strong moral integrity

Have no serious criminal record

Have interest in AU activities and African development

No prior work experience is required.

Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Email and internet proficiency

Strong communication skills (oral & written)

Good interpersonal abilities

Multilingual skills are an added advantage

The internship is unpaid

Interns cover their own:

Travel costs

Accommodation

Living expenses

AU may assist with visa arrangements

Interns must have valid health insurance

No medical evacuation or travel compensation is provided
