Bundibugyo Virus Disease (BVD) Preparedness Officer at UN Volunteer – July 2026
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), is seeking a dedicated Bundibugyo Virus Disease (BVD) Preparedness Officer to support emergency preparedness activities in Zanzibar. This full-time opportunity is ideal for professionals passionate about public health, emergency preparedness, disease surveillance, and health systems strengthening.
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the WHO Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) Team Lead and the WHO Liaison Officer for Zanzibar to support the Ministry of Health in strengthening preparedness for potential Bundibugyo Virus Disease (BVD) outbreaks. The role focuses on planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting, capacity building, and coordination of preparedness activities across multiple technical areas.
Responsibilities
Preparedness Planning and Implementation
Support implementation of the Bundibugyo Virus Disease (BVD) preparedness workplan.
Assist in organizing preparedness activities at national and district levels.
Support implementation of preparedness interventions across technical pillars.
Follow up on implementation of agreed preparedness actions.
Technical Support
Assist with preparedness activities related to surveillance, laboratory systems, infection prevention and control (IPC), case management, logistics, risk communication and community engagement (RCCE), Points of Entry (PoE), and continuity of essential health services.
Support preparedness activities in high-risk districts and Points of Entry.
Participate in field missions and supportive supervision visits.
Support simulation exercises, emergency drills, and preparedness reviews.
Monitoring and Documentation
Maintain preparedness activity tracking tools.
Compile information for preparedness dashboards.
Monitor progress against preparedness plans.
Document lessons learned and best practices.
Information Management
Prepare weekly preparedness updates.
Draft technical reports and mission reports.
Support the preparation of Situation Reports.
Assist in compiling monthly preparedness progress reports.
Capacity Building
Support the organization of training workshops and orientations.
Assist in preparing training materials.
Provide logistical and technical support during training sessions and simulation exercises.
Partner Coordination
Support the organization of technical coordination meetings.
Prepare meeting minutes and action matrices.
Follow up on implementation of agreed action points.
Other Duties
Support preparedness activities for other public health emergencies when required.
Perform any other duties assigned by the WHO Representative or the WHO Health Emergencies Team Lead.

Timely implementation of Bundibugyo Virus Disease preparedness activities across Zanzibar.
Updated preparedness monitoring tools, dashboards, and action trackers.
Preparation of weekly preparedness updates and monthly progress reports.
Technical support for preparedness assessments, field supervision visits, and simulation exercises.
Successful organization of training workshops and preparedness meetings.
Timely preparation of mission reports, meeting reports, and Situation Reports.
Improved documentation of preparedness activities and lessons learned.
Strengthened preparedness capacity among Ministry of Health staff through technical support and on-the-job mentoring.
Qualifications and Skills
Successful candidates should demonstrate:
Knowledge of public health emergency preparedness and response.
Experience supporting disease surveillance, outbreak response, or emergency health programmes.
Strong organizational, coordination, and project implementation skills.
Excellent report writing, documentation, and information management abilities.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively with government institutions, WHO, and development partners.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
